Moksha Meditation (Part 2) - "Don't sit there Meditating" is my new Mantra

I am overwhelmed by the number of response I received to my question in my last post.. Before I go ahead, I would like to thank all those who mailed me with your lovely answers.. Also you mails on how interesting this topic is and how curious you are has encouraged me to continue this blog as Part 2 of Moksha Meditation..

In my previous blog I had mentioned you need not take that 15 mins to sit aside and meditate. By saying this, I am not criticizing other styles of meditations... But this is my small effort of introducing this new technique of meditation I have been trying myself and has worked wonders!

What is Happiness?
Here are some of the answers I received..

  • Happiness is when I buy a car
  • Happiness is feeling happy
  • Happiness is when I buy my dream house
  • Happiness is having a baby
  • Happiness is seeing that smile in my childs face
  • Happiness is achieving my ambition
  • Happiness is having a cup of masala chai (indian tea) with your best friend
  • Happiness is when I get an auto as soon as I walk down the street in a hot summer
  • Happiness is a sweet good night kiss.....and so on.....
Some people measure happiness by materialistic things where as some measure it with non- materialistic things..
The problem here is, if we didn't get these things (like things listed above), we wont feel happy.. So here comes a few more questions to ask yourselves...
Do you really need something in your lives to be happy?
If yes, is Happiness really measurable?
Can you actually achieve happiness?

Happiness is merely a state of no unhappiness

Moksha Meditation is a state of mind... it is the attitude towards life...
Moksha meditation is a state of constant happiness..

Lets reiterate the statement Happiness is merely a state of no unhappiness.. Is this statement equivalent to "Happiness is merely no sadness"? ??

No!

Like no light in this world means darkness..
No God means Evil..
No intelligence means being dumb...
Darkness, Evil or being dumb are a few examples of negativity which can only exists in the absence of a positivity, likewise Sadness exists only where there is no happiness..

In reality, there is no definition for sadness..

Hmm... you might be thinking this is bizarre!

Before I go any further... understanding this concept of happiness is extremely important...

Hence lets do a small exercise...

Step 1: Wherever you, (lying, sitting, travelling) just breath in twice deeply
Step 2: Now, empty your mind of all thoughts and emotions, as if your brain is an empty box.
No thoughts..... No anger.... No irritability.... No love... No lust... Nothing....
Your brain is just an empty space now...

Step 3: Pick a pinch of the Happiness and imagine it to sink into your empty box called brain..

Step 4: As you do this, just give yourself a smile! Trust me you deserve it.. :)

Thats All!!

Try maintaining this throughout your day... A conscious effort every now and then especially of step 2 and 3 ever now an then while doing your usual activities will make a tremendous difference to your daily lifestyle...

I will come back to talk about this and answer the curious cats.. But make sure you try these steps of Moksha Meditation a couple of times..

A Humble Warning: We are used to being in a constant state of stress or constant state of thoughts (good or bad).. Hence emptying your mind of everything might take a little while..
Tip: Understanding the concept of Happiness can make practice of Moksha Meditation a lot easier!
Remember: Moksha Meditation is not a destination, it is a way of Life...

Moksha Meditation - A new way of living your life..

I researched on a couple of questions on meditation and found this...
What is Meditation:
45% said sitting / lying down on a quiet room
50% said trying to concentrate in 1 object / stay calm
100% said not talking to anyone while you meditate

How often do you meditate?
5% said once a week or more often
8% said once a month
92% said can't meditate due to busy schedule
70% said don't know how to meditate/not my cup of tea (they also agreed on point 3)

And if you are reading this and thinking you fit into most of these answers.. especially the majority then here is something for you...

In Moksha Meditation you don't have to...

  • sit aside in a closed room
  • close your eyes
  • not talk to anyone while you meditate
  • take time of your routine work

It is an art of being in a state happiness at all times.. It is a state of relaxation... a state of consciousness..

Let me start with some basics..
Moksha is a sanskrit word meaning liberation. Spiritually Moksha means freedom from samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth. Whereas psychologically means freedom/ self realisation.

Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind to induce mode of consciousness which helps to relax, focus and quiet your mind..

Do you think you could unit the two? -Moksha and Meditation!
One often would disagree as Moksha is usually attained after one's death. But Moksha meditation is a form of meditation which allows you to enjoy the peace in you state of complete consciousness while you are doing you daily day to day activities like talking, working, dealing with issues at work or fights etc..

Now... Is this practically possible? Can you meditate while sitting in the most important business meeting!
Can you meditate while you are working hard to meet your deadlines?
Can you meditate while you are running late?

Before I go any further, I would like to ask a question to my readers...

What is Happiness and How do you measure it?

Weekend Health Tips

WEEKEND! and there comes the smile and all that excitement about it. . .

We all tend to relax – or be lax – on weekends, party and that’s what they’re for, right?
But loosening our grips on a healthy lifestyle, even just for the weekend, can sabotage our efforts to reach health and fitness goals.

Recent studies indicate that we tend to take in more calories on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The exact number varies from an average of 85 calories per weekend day to 115, and while that may not seem like much, it adds up. A pound is 3,500 calories, so 345 extra calories a week will lead to nearly a pound after 10 weeks — or an extra five pounds over a year.
week 2     week 4            week 6             week 8      week 10
You may think, "So I eat a little more on Saturday night, I’ll exercise that off on Sunday." Sunday arrives, yet you find excuses not to exercise " Its a lazy Sunday!"
  • Church starts at 9 a.m.? Then get up at 7 a.m. and walk a few miles. You rise early to workout on weekdays, why not on weekends? Or give it a twist - You can go for a mini trek, I'm sure there are loads of places around, you still need to explore...

  • You can’t miss 60 Minutes talk show / the famous movie on Sunday evening? Tape it or you can always find it on the net, and hit the gym.
  • Your wife wants your help in the garden? Good news – the experts deem yard work real exercise.
  • Watching your kids’ baseball games all day? Stand up while you watch: standing burns more calories than sitting. Or take a walk between games.
  • Or just call you friends and Go, Play! remember the out door games you played in your school days?
  • Do you just not feel like working out because, after all, weekends are for relaxing? Just a few minutes of exercise is better than none. Keeping up with your exercise routine will help you reach your fitness goals that much faster, and once you get into the groove of working out, you’ll crave it. Promise!
And it doesn’t stop with fitness...
While it’s easy to drink the recommended eight glasses of water a day when you have a water bottle sitting on your desk at work, where you’re stuck for half your waking hours, weekends are different. You’re watching your kids’ soccer games or shopping or meeting friends or doing yard work or visiting the craft booths at the local art fair. Carrying a water bottle with you everywhere you go just doesn’t seem feasible. Keep your eye on the prize: a healthier you. Be conscious of what you eat during the weekends, stick to your healthy lifestyle of eating right and exercising just like you do during the week. If you need to reward yourself for the hard work (or the diligence you've kept to your diet) through the week, see a movie or get a massage. DON’T get the cheesy fries appetizer or order an extra margarita – the study shows that the additional weekend calories come from fat and alcohol.

On weekends, give yourself a break, but make it a healthy one.
